Apprenticeship│Meetup #1

Hello, there!!

Today was my first day of my apprenticeship with Cherrish. As I might have mentioned before, it has been a while since I have last sewn anything. So, Cherrish thought it would be best if I helped her out with some simple tasks to start out. My first task was to help organize Cherrish's vintage sewing patterns; there were so many patterns I liked in her stash, that I took pictures of the ones that I wanted to buy for myself.

Somehow we got on the subject of dreams and aspirations, and Cherrish then told me about a by Terri Savelle Foy called "Dream It. Pin It. Live It.". She even showed me Terri's YouTube channel and how it would give me motivation to achieve my dreams. Actually, this was just what I needed; I think the main reasons why I don't sew as often as I should is because one, I am not confident enough in my sewing skills, and two, because I am not confident enough in myself, I also am not motivated to get anything done.

Cherrish so happens to have the exact serger that I want (the Brother 1034D) and even showed me how to thread the serger. I really needed this also, as I have had a somewhat-traumatic experience during one of my undergrad sewing classes, in which I forgot to disengage the knife on the serger and ended up cutting a whole in the back of the shirt that I was making. However, just by simply showing me how to thread the machine, Cherrish probably does not know how much confidence I have gained in myself!!

I also talked to Cherrish about how to brand myself and really make my designs known (I am confident in my illustration skills and have been posting them on my Instagram page). Cherrish explained to me that what she learned through running her business is that simply posting pictures won't do much for you. Providing a product, service, or even a tutorial will enable for more interaction and increase in site traffic.

I really enjoyed my first day of this apprenticeship and have already learned so much from Cherrish!!
