GARMENTS
This is the first garment that I've ever made. It is a basic skirt that I made in my first sewing course (Apparel Product Assembly) in college using a store-bought pattern. The skirt is made of a cotton, floral printed fabric. It has four darts in the front and back, as well as a centered zipper at center back.
This is another skirt that I made in my first sewing class (Apparel Product Assembly). It is made of a black suiting fabric. There are two darts and a tuck in the front, four darts in the back, and a centered zipper at center back.
In my second sewing course (Apparel Structures), I made a flared skirt from a floral blue and green cotton fabric. The skirt has a yoke, pockets, and an invisible zipper at center back.
In my Apparel Structures course, my final project consisted of a top and matching skirt that followed a circus theme. I was inspired by the trapeze. I made a bubble skirt of a colorful polka-dot cotton fabric. It has an exposed zipper at center back as well as inseam pockets. The top is made of broadcloth and has cap sleeves and four buttons at center front. It also has a keyhole neckline with a standing mandarin color. The inside of the collar is faced with the same fabric as the skirt.
My third sewing class (Apparel Design by Flat Pattern) involved making patterns for jackets. Our first project was to make a reversible jacket with a partner. My partner and I's theme was summer and winter. This is the winter side that my classmate did. It is made of crepe fabric and has a shawl collar and raglan sleeves. The lace on the back peplum represents snowflakes.
My third sewing class (Apparel Design by Flat Pattern) involved making patterns for jackets. Our first project was to make a reversible jacket with a partner. My partner and I's theme was summer and winter. This is the summer side that I did. It is made of cotton. The tan cotton represents the sand of a beach. The blue of the peplum in back represent a wave and the white satin is the sea foam on top of a wave. This peplum is meant to look like a wave crashing on the shore.
My third sewing class (Apparel Design by Flat Pattern) involved making patterns for jackets. For our second project, the class had to make a lined denim jacket with a notched collar, full-length sleeves with vents, and patch pockets.
My third sewing class (Apparel Design by Flat Pattern) involved making patterns for jackets. For this project, we had to come up with a jacket design that was inspired by a theme of our choice with elements of menswear jackets. We also had to create a skirt that matched the jacket. For my theme I chose men's sports jackets of the 1950s. This fully lined ensemble is made of solid navy blue flannel. There is grey plaid flannel detailing at the wrists, skirt hem, and pocket flaps.
I made this sleeveless sheath dress in my fourth sewing class (Apparel Design by Draping). For my first project, I was given a store (Chicos) and had to make a shift/sheath dress that would go along with the merchandise that the store already carries. I saw that Chicos had a lot of solids and tribal prints, so I decided to mix the two. The green tribal print cotton fabric is on the yoke and the hem of the dress. The rest of the dress is a solid royal blue.
For my final project in my Apparel Design by Draping course, I had to make a strapless gown inspired by a Mardi Gras theme. I chose to base my design around the draping decorations of Mardi Gras. The teal organza overlay resembles the draping of beads and streamers of Mardi Gras and even looks like the fleur-de-lis symbol. The dress is made of a purple crepe-back satin and is lined. During this project I used boning for the first time.
